Chennai
Chennai (formerly known as Madras) is the capital of Tamil Nadu State in India. It is the fourth largest metropolitan city in India. It is the commercial and industrial Centre of South India and stands second in software and IT enabled services, next only to Bangalore. Chennai is also known for its rich cultural heritage and temple architecture. The 12 km long Marina Beach forms the city’s east coast and is the second longest beach in the world. Its proximity to the sea gives it a hot and humid climate for most of the year. Usually in February, Chennai experiences a pleasant weather.


Loyola College
Loyola College, Chennai was established in 1925 by the Loyola College Society. It became an autonomous College in 1978. However, it continues to be affiliated to the University of Madras. Loyola College was accredited at A+ level and later awarded a score of 3.70 out of 4.00 CGPA by the NAAC. It was declared as ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ in 2004 by the UGC which in 2010 conferred upon it the ‘College of Excellence’ status. Loyola College has continued to remain for the past two decades in the list of Top 10 Colleges in India as ranked by India Today, a national weekly magazine.  MHRD, Government of India has ranked Loyola College #2 in its National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the academic year 2016-17. Loyola Institute of Frontier Energy (LIFE)
In Loyola College, Loyola Institute of Frontier Energy (LIFE) was started in 1995 under the leadership of Rev Dr Francis P. Xavier SJ. LIFE was established for promoting multidisciplinary research by integrating Physical, Chemical and Life Sciences. The thrust areas of research in LIFE have been Energy, Environment, Materials Science and Bioethics. LIFE has organized several International and National Conferences, Seminars, Symposia and Workshops on various topics for the benefit of Academic Institutions, Research Institutes and Schools. In 1999, LIFE established an interdisciplinary journal “Convergence” with a view of highlighting the energy and environmental issues in the research field. LIFE is recognized as one of the Centres of Excellence in Loyola College and also one of the two research institutes on campus, enjoying the SIRO (Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) status, awarded by DSIR, Government of India.
